Values & Philosophies
By Head Coach Bruce Deacon
Dedication
Through dedication to the group and our pursuit of excellence we build character. We treat each other as we would want to be treated. We strive to be virtuous people and not just fast runners.
Focus on Personal Bests
Every year, I sit down with each athlete to set individual goals, and then structure their training and racing to obtain those goals. Together we select the meets that matter the most and peak for those races. This is a competitive running program, but I adjust to meet the needs of the individual athlete, taking into consideration age, event and fitness level.
I structure the training to build endurance and aerobic capacity. This doesn’t mean we don’t run fast or that our team can’t sprint, but it does mean that we start with a base of endurance training.
Community
There is nothing that brings out the best in a runner like training in a group. We have a supportive and encouraging team that likes to laugh, socialize, encourage, and train hard. Together we can achieve far more than if we train alone.
We enjoy the journey. Training is fun…hard, but satisfying. I want them to find enjoyment in the hard work, personal improvements, and the social part of training with a team.
There are no cuts. For safety reasons, you have to be able to keep up during the warm-up, but I adapt the training to meet your current level of fitness.
